Microsoft Says Bye-bye to Yahoo!

Putting an end to months of speculation, on Friday last week, Microsoft withdrew its final $47.5 billion offer to acquire Yahoo! The conclusion of its rather long-drawn chase to acquire Yahoo! comes as a surprise to many, as it was only Saturday that we heard of a new ray of hope for a marriage between the two biggies following speculation of Microsoft sweetening its takeover bid, which the company obviously did.

Eliciting the reasons that triggered its final decision, Microsoft said that despite best efforts and a roughly $5 billion bid to acquire Yahoo!, the company did not move forward and accept the offer. Microsoft said they believe that the economics demanded by Yahoo! did not make sense for them after all, hence pulled back.

SUPEERMARKET SHOPPING TIPS

Little supermarket decisions we make everyday like buying milk, bread, meat, dairy, juice and even fruit can add up to weight gain. Here's your ultimate guide to shopping smart so that the supermarket does not sabotage your diet.
Before you even walk into your supermarket, consider these tips:
Never shop when you're hungry.
Never shop without a list; there's no such thing as running in to "pick up a few things."
Try to not shop with your kids; they can often distract you from making the right choices and reading ingredient labels.
Once you get into the supermarket, follow my lead....
Avoid alluring displays of new foods
Avoid grabbing food samples - each mouthful is approximately 25 extra calories. That's 100 calories after just four bites!
Shop the outer perimeter of the supermarket where the healthier items are first; the unhealthier foods are located in the center aisles (by the time you've picked up your produce, low-fat dairy, whole grains and lean proteins your cart is starting to get full and you will be less likely to buy the "bad" stuff)
Bigger is not always better - particularly when it's a bigger bag of unhealthy snack food.

4 RESTAURANT SLIMMING TIPS

Dining out can be quite the challenge when you’re looking to knock off a few pounds or simply eat healthy. Here are four slimming tips you can use at your next restaurant outing:
1) Think small: Restaurant portions are often gigantic. Scale back by ordering one to two non-fried appetizers instead of an entrée – or consider sharing an entrée with a friend. You can also divide your main course in half and take half home for a future meal.
2) Delete the bread basket: Each slice adds about 100 calories – plus 50 additional calories for every teaspoon of butter or olive oil you add. That said, politely (and immediately!) ask to have the entire basket removed.
3) Lose liquid calories: Beverage calories add up quickly – calories that don’t necessarily fill you up. Try your best to pass on soda, fruit drinks, fruit juice, smoothies, fattening tails, and coffee loaded with milk and sugar. Instead, drink lots of water, seltzer, and unsweetened ice tea. For coffee and tea, use skim and/or 1% reduced fat milk – and limit the sugar to 1 packet per cup.
4) Special request: Speak up and ask your waiter for a few substitutions. Request foods which are baked, steamed, broiled, grilled, poached, or roasted…. and ask to replace fatty French fries with a baked potato or side vegetable. Also, request your sandwich on whole wheat bread instead of white, specify brown rice instead of white rice and ask for salad dressing, gravy, and sauces on the side. These minor adjustments translate into major calorie savings.

YES.YOU CAN HAVE CHOCLATES!

It’s true. There’s room for chocolate in any healthy diet, not only because new research indicates that it’s actually good for you thanks to disease-fighting flavanols in the darker varieties, but also because it tastes good and you love it.
The key to including indulgences like chocolate in your diet without blowing your calorie limit is to eat them in moderation. That means limiting yourself to a small piece or two a day (about one ounce or 150 calories worth), and splurging on high-quality chocolate that really satisfies.
Another calorie-smart strategy is to pair chocolate with fruit (dip strawberries into a melted square, for instance), or mix air-popped popcorn with a few nuts and chocolate chips for a healthy homemade trail mix that feels like a real treat.
